Midland man faces slew of charges after rocks, objects thrown at homes

OPP say 36-year-old man assaulted two officers, caused extensive property damage during Sunday spree

Scott Barry Sylvester 36 years of no fixed address Midland, was arrested on February 4, 2024 shortly after 7:00 a.m. by members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment  in relation to a series of reported mischief related events in the Manly Street and Galloway Boulevard area of Midland.

Officers responded after the OPP Communication Center received calls from community remembers reporting that an individual on foot was throwing wooden objects and rocks at homes and vehicles in the Manly Street and Galloway Boulevard area.

The accused was located and arrested nearby and transported to Detachment where the accused assaulted officers who were continuing the investigation.

Charges issued contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada in relation to this investigation are as follows.

  • Mischief - destroys or damages property (three counts)
  • Mischief - obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property
  • Mischief Over $5,000
  • Assault a Peace Officer While Carrying a Weapon (two counts)
  • Assault a Peace Officer (two counts)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was held for a bail hearing and will appear before Ontario Court of Justice on a future date.
