Local police charge four people with impaired driving this week

One of the accused, a 40-year-old Tiny Township man, is also facing weapon charges, police say

Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers have charged three people with impaired driving this week.

At about 9:30 p.m. July 18, police responded to the report of a driver passed out in the parking lot of the Village Square Mall in Penetanguishene.

Luke Albert Hamelin, 40, of Tiny Township, has been charged with operation while impaired (drugs), being an occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a prohibited or restricted weapon, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, and two counts of failure to comply with a release order (other than to attend court). He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

On June 20, shortly before 4 p.m., an off-duty officer reported a possible impaired driver after in the area of Concession Road 16 in Tiny Township. The suspect vehicle was located in the driveway of a residence on Farlain Road.

Kalan Hamilton, 41, of Barrie, has been charged with dangerous operation, operation while impaired (alcohol), failure or refusal to comply with a demand, operation while prohibited, and two counts of failure to comply with a release order (other than to attend court). The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

At about 5 p.m. July 20, a driver was pulled over for speeding on Concession Road 16 East in Tiny Township.

Roman Kulesza, 66, of Tiny Township, has been charged with operation while impaired (alcohol), operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus), and speeding (49 km/h over the posted limit). The accused was released from custody and is set to appear in court Aug. 10.

At about 9:25 p.m. July 20, a driver on Highway 400 reported a vehicle in a swampy area off the east side of the highway at the off-ramp to Highway 12 in Tay Township.

Stephen Clewes, 65, of Caledon, has been charged with operation while impaired (alcohol and drugs) and operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus). He was released from custody and will appear in court Aug. 3.
