Uniform officers assigned to the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment Marine Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on patrol over the Labour Day holiday weekend only checked one vessel that did not have sufficient lifejackets aboard. One other operator was charged with failing to have a pleasure craft operators card (PCOC) while officers checked a total of 24 vessels during their 32 hours of patrol of area waterways. Eight operators were educated on various offences under the Canada Shipping Act (CSA) and officers responded to six calls for service.

Officers have noted during their patrols a number of false vessel registry documents which have been provided for a fee to unknowing vessel owners. These documents were not produced by Transport Canada and anyone registering a pleasure craft in Ontario online is urged to visit the free official Transport Canada site at https://tc.canada.ca/en/marine-transportation/vessel-licensing-registration/pleasure-craft-licensing . Please view the attached submitted false document.

Focused patrols were also conducted along the Tiny Township shoreline, Giants Tomb, Six Mile Lake, Trent Severn System and Gloucester Pool areas to help reduce the incidence of impaired driving and other alcohol related offences along

Reminder

Wearing your Lifejacket while on the water will definitely increase your chances of survival if you should go overboard, having sufficient lifejackets for everyone aboard is the Law! (see submitted graphics)

If you see a possible impaired operator "Make the Call" and dial 911 and help prevent a summer time tragedy.
