A woman in her 60s has been charged after Barrie police say she damaged a cruiser while officers were trying to de-escalate the situation, Tuesday.

Police had responded to a call March 5 at a Gowan Street residence in the Allandale neighbourhood after receiving a report of an "unwanted person."

When police arrived just after 11 a.m., officers encountered a "hostile and extremely violent person." While attempting to calm things down, the woman damaged a police vehicle, according to a news release.

The 68-year-old woman, of no fixed address, was also wanted by another police service on several bench warrants. She was taken into custody and transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where she was charged with mischief under $5,000

The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Later in the afternoon, the woman appeared by video for a bail hearing at the Barrie courthouse and was remanded in custody.
