Heavy police presence in industrial area in Penetanguishene

Police remain on scene following incident Thursday on Laurier Road

A heavy police presence including tactical squads from Halton Regional Police descended on an industrial area of Penetanguishene around 3 p.m. Thursday.

OPP closed Laurier Road and asked the public to avoid the area. Central Region OPP put out a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the investigation is ongoing and that there is no threat to public safety.

People commenting on the Penetanguishene Community Forum Facebook page reported hearing gunshots, seeing an ambulance leave the scene followed by police vehicles and a helicopter in the area.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP Const. Aaron Coulter said Friday, "As a result of an interaction with one individual, the OPP has notified Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit, which has invoked its mandate. As a result, the OPP will not be providing further information."

Police remain on the scene Friday at 21 Laurier Rd., home of B2 Cabinetry.
