A 60-year-old Midland man has been charged with impaired driving following a head-on crash in Penetanguishene Saturday afternoon.

Martin Sims faces impaired charges along with operation causing bodily harm in relation to the two-vehicle accident on County Road 93 at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Both drivers were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Another Midland man faces impaired driving charges after Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Sundowner Road at 10.55 p.m. Thursday.

Charged in relation to that accident is Gavin Blok-Kavanaugh.

And with roadways in the detachment area over the weekend receiving a healthy coating of snow and with strong gusting winds creating winter driving conditions, officers responded to 20 other reported vehicle crashes between January 10 and 15.

Patrol officers were able to set up 12 RIDE programs at various locations during the same time-frame resulting in 148 drivers being checked for signs of impairment.

“Educating the public about safe driving, boating and ORV practices with our community safety partners is a priority, if you see a possible impaired operator on our roadways, waterways or trails please ‘Make the Call’ and dial 911,” police noted in a release.
