Five arrested in string of thefts from vehicles in area

Tiny, Barrie residents accused of theft, fraud; police appeal for victims to come forward

Five people have been charged in relation to numerous thefts from vehicles in New Tecumseth and Essa.

Early this month, police noticed “a significant increase in thefts from motor vehicles,” Nottawasaga OPP stated in a news release, adding the thefts also led to fraudulent use of credit cards.

On Thursday, Nottawasaga OPP, assisted by Caledon OPP, the OPP Emergency Response Team, OPP Canine Unit and Barrie Police Service, executed a search warrant at two addresses in the Barrie area.

As a result, Caleb Pring, 24, of Tiny Township, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (five counts), theft under $5,000 from a motor vehicle (four counts), possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine), possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (opioid other than heroin), and fraud under $5,000 (four counts).

The accused is scheduled to appear in Bradford court Dec. 1.

Chandler Achilles, 23, of Barrie, was charged with possession of an identity document, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (four counts), theft under $5,000 from a motor vehicle (three counts), and fraud under $5,000 (three counts).

The accused has a Dec. 1 court date in Bradford.

Zachary Meyer, 25, of Barrie, was charged with theft under $5,000 from a motor vehicle (three counts), possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (four counts), and fraud under $5,000 (three counts).

The accused is scheduled to appear in Bradford court Dec. 1.

Samantha McLinden, 48, and Sheldon Davidson, 43, both of Barrie, were charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The accused are scheduled to appear in Bradford court Nov. 24.

Police urge anyone who had items stolen from their vehicles between Oct. 1 and 27 in the areas of New Tecumseth or Essa to call OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Nottawasaga OPP has seized numerous personal items to be returned.
