At approximately 1:30 p.m., Sept. 17, uniform officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP detachment responded to a report that a commercial vehicle had struck and downed Hydro One power lines in the vicinity of the intersection of Triple Bay Road and Highway 12, Tay Township. Attending officers were forced to close Highway 12 in both directions at that location, including Rumney Road due to safety concerns of the downed high voltage power lines on the roadway.

It is currently expected that the roadway at this location may be closed for upwards to 24 hours so that repairs could be safely completed.

Notes for Traffic Detours

1) Traffic heading east bound on Highway 12 from Midland to Orillia or traffic heading westbound from Waubaushene/ Highway 400 to Midland should consider using Vasey Road (Simcoe Road 23) to travel from Highway 12 to Highway 93.

2) Local regular vehicular traffic heading to Port McNicoll from Midland on east bound Highway 12 will have to use the detour of Ogden's Beach Road to Bayview Ave and onward to Port McNicoll. Traffic will also be able to detour south on Old Fort Road to Vasey Road.

3) West bound local vehicular traffic will be able to travel southbound on Reeves Road at Highway 12 to Vasey Road.

The downed wires have also created an extensive power outage in the North Simcoe area, so please be courteous and treat all signalled intersections as a four-way stop.
