Southern Georgian Bay OPP had a busy long weekend responding to calls, including at least one that resulted in an impaired driving charge.

At about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, police responded to the report of a vehicle that had left the road and entered a swamp off South Bay Road in Georgian Bay Township.

Giancarlo Disalvo, 42, of Parry Sound, has been charged with operation while impaired (alcohol and drugs), operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus), and careless driving. He was released from custody and has an Aug. 31 court date.

During the long weekend, officers responded to 205 calls for service and conducted 10 RIDE checks. Police noted 107 vehicles were stopped “in a focused patrol for roadway traffic violators,” which resulted in 73 offence notices being issued under the Highway Traffic Act, Liquor Licence and Control Act, and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

Ten collisions were investigated. No serious injuries were reported.
