NEWS RELEASE
ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE
***************************
Securing your recreational property is the reminder message that members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to get across to owners at this time of year. With winter slowly fading away and Easter weekend fast approaching, recreational vehicle owners will either be putting away their winter machines and/or bringing their summer toys from their storage locations.

Owners should put some thought into how to best secure their property for the summer, which may be left unattended for a length of time at the cottage or a storage location.

  • Is the vehicle's registration and insurance coverage up to date prior to putting it into/coming out of storage?
  • Does the vehicle's parking location for the spring/summer/fall seasons have a video surveillance/theft alarm, a well lite area or nearby neighbours?
  • At the end of the day, after using your recreational vehicle, have you utilized the best way to secure/immobilize it to the dock, trailer or in a secured container or garage storage location?

Recreational vehicle owners are encouraged to find further solutions for securing their boat, ATV, motorcycle or snowmobile, and remember to always "Lock IT or Lose IT."
