Crack, fentanyl seized after traffic stop in Penetanguishene

Police say they removed more than $13,000 worth of drugs from local streets; A man remains in custody awaiting a video bail hearing

PENETANGUISHENE – On Aug. 28, 2020 at 1:54 a.m. members of the OPP Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) attached to the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop during a street drug investigation at the intersection of Main and Edward Streets in the Town of Penetanguishene. 

Officers were also assisted by members of the OPP Central Region Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) and OPP Emergency Response Unit (ERT) who arrested the driver at the scene and a roadside search resulted in the seizure of a quantity of street drugs and the investigation was continued back at the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment.

As a result of this investigation a quantity of crack cocaine was seized with an approximate street value of $10,000 along with a quantity of Fentanyl with an approximate street value of $3,500.

Charged is the driver of the vehicle Tajuddin Shahabuddin, 29 years, of Richmond Hill with the following offences contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:  

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine  
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin)  
  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court

The accused remains in custody awaiting a video bail hearing and will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland at a future date.
