A pickup truck stuck in a ditch resulted in multiple charges against a Barrie man.

On the evening of Nov. 9, 2022, members of the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a collision at First Avenue and Alberta Street in Port McNicoll. On arrival, a male driver was observed attempting to free a pickup truck, which was stuck in the ditch after leaving the roadway.

On speaking with the male, officers noted that he was showing strong signs of impairment. However, he registered zero alcohol on a roadside screening test. The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for an examination by a drug recognition evaluator. Further investigation revealed that the owner of the truck had not provided permission to the driver and that a probation order was being breached.

As a result of this investigation, Ronald Brady, 45, of Barrie was charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada:

  • Operation while impaired — alcohol or drug
  • Dangerous operation
  • Take auto without consent
  • Fail to comply with probation order

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Nov. 28, 2022 in Midland. When charged with impaired driving, the driver’s licence of the accused is suspended for 90 days and the vehicle they were operating is impounded for seven days.

The OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead and to use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgments. Enforcement and education is essential to save lives and reduce injuries on our trails, roadways and waterways.
