A Barrie man has been charged with impaired following a collision between two boats Sunday morning in the Honey Harbour area.

The incident happened on the waters of Georgian Bay at Ojibway Bay at the northwest area of Beausoleil Island, Georgian Bay Islands National Park.

Provincial police responded to a call shortly before 8:30 a.m., Sept. 18, regarding a collision between a 48-foot vessel, which was docked, and a 30-foot vessel, which had allegedly left the scene.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers located the 30-foot vessel at a marina in Tiny Township shortly after 9 a.m. and spoke with the operator.

During the investigation, police say officers noticed signs of alcohol consumption and demanded an alcohol screening test. As a result, the operator was placed under arrest and transported to the detachment to provide further samples.

Gaetan Cartier, 36, of Barrie, has been charged with operation while impaired, blood alcohol concentration (over 80 mg), contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Oct. 20, 2022.

When charged with an impaired related occurrence on the water, police say a person's driver's licence is suspended for 90 days.
