Things got a little wild in downtown Orillia just after midnight on Saturday.

The Orillia OPP were called to 24 Mississaga St. E. for "reports of a male party who was stabbed" and then fled the scene.

However, upon investigation, it was determined that two people had attempted to steal another person's vehicle.

Officers were able to identify the "accused parties" in the attempted robbery that left a male with several injuries. However, police determined the man had not been stabbed but was attacked with what appears to have been a fire extinguisher and other "miscellaneous items." There were also reports of a .22-caliber handgun being seen, but police were unable to confirm that.

Orillia OPP officers, along with the OPP's forensic identification services, the Orillia OPP community mobilization unit, the bicycle unit, the Orillia OPP emergency response team and Central Region OPP's canine unit were able to locate, arrest and charge the individuals.

Jobi Greer, a 29-year-old from Orillia has been charged with:

  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Forcible confinement
  • Assault, and
  • Robbery with violence

Paul Hart-Payne, a 30-year-old from Orillia, has been charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon

The accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia today to answer to the charges.
