Area resident charged after four-hour standoff ends peacefully

Police responded to reports of knife-wielding man walking along road Sunday morning

A weapons call and lengthy standoff was resolved peacefully in Innisfil Sunday.

On Jan. 14 at about 9:30 a.m., South Simcoe police responded to reports of a man armed with a knife walking up and down a street in the area of 25th Sideroad and 10th Line. The man subsequently entered a residence and barricaded himself inside, police allege.

“Police set up containment of the home,” stated a South Simcoe media release issued Jan. 15.

Members of the department's emergency response unit were on scene, along with trained crisis negotiators who established contact with the man.

“Approximately four hours later, the man surrendered peacefully to police and was taken into custody without incident,” the media release said. “No one was injured.”

As a result of an investigation, Innisfil resident Adam Seden, 41, was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, failure to comply with an undertaking, and two counts of uttering threats.

He was held for a bail hearing.
