TINY TOWNSHIP - Eight persons over the July 9-12, 2021 weekend were served up offence notices for liquor violations while boating on area waterways.

Four uniform officers assigned to the Southern Georgian Bay detachment Marine Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) operating two OPP patrol vessels checked 125 vessels during their 64 hours of patrol time.

One operator who had been consuming alcoholic beverages registered a "warn range" on the roadside screening device (ASD) resulted in a three day (ADLS) Ontario drivers licence suspension.

Six operators were cited for various equipment and speed violations of the Canada Shipping Act along with two operators for failing to have sufficient lifejackets aboard.

Officers educated 27 operators on various minor violations of the Canada Shipping Act in an effort to further increase mariners knowledge of the safety equipment required to be onboard while enjoying their recreation time boating here in the Heart of Georgian Bay!

When in doubt of vessel equipment requirements please load the "apps" or view the following web sites provided by the safety minded folks at the Canadian Safe Boating Council (CSBC). (iboatnotes, Weather to Boat)

Reminder:
As drowning awareness week approaches July 18-24, 2021, all persons venturing out on a vessel or going for a swim should take a moment and view the following links and hopefully eliminate a water tragedy this summer. If Holly can wear her lifejacket, maybe you should too!

If you see a possible impaired operator "Make the Call" and dial 911 and help prevent a summer time tragedy.
