$643K in stolen vehicles recovered after 'massive' investigation

Barrie police say six people have been charged with several offences; antique Dodge Challenger among vehicles seized

A months-long investigation by the Barrie police street crime unit has led to the recovery of almost $650,000 worth of stolen vehicles and charges being laid against six people. 

Barrie police say the recently concluded "massive" investigation focused on break-ins and thefts that occurred in both Barrie and in nearby Simcoe County communities between August and December 2023.

As a result of the investigation, city police say numerous Criminal Code search warrants were executed in Barrie and the surrounding area. This resulted in the arrest of six people who have been charged with 45 Criminal Code offences, including:

  • Break and enter
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Possession of stolen property
  • Motor vehicle theft
  • Theft over $5,000
  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Flight from police
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited.

No names have been released and none of the allegations have been tested in court. 

The investigation also netted the seizure of the following stolen vehicles, which police say are valued at $643,000:

  • U-HAUL trucks (2)
  • U-HAUL cube van
  • U-HAUL Sprinter van
  • Tent trailer
  • Ram truck
  • Motorcycles (2)
  • Antique Dodge Challenger car and enclosed trailer
  • Minivan
  • Ford F150 trucks (2)

In addition to the recovered vehicles, Barrie police say investigators also recovered an additional $80,000 in stolen property from the various break-and-enters that had taken place during the five-month period.
