Gail Lorraine Welten, known to her loved ones as Gail, peacefully passed away on September 28, 2023, in Midland, Ontario, at the age of 81.

Born on July 2, 1942, in Toronto, Ontario, Gail was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Gail would describe her as a kind-hearted woman. Despite facing numerous challenges throughout her life, Gail drew upon her inner strength and never allowed bitterness to take hold. She was a true testament to resilience, never giving up and always persevering. Gail's unwavering belief in never surrendering was evident until her final breath.

The well-being and support of her family were always of utmost importance to Gail. She made herself readily available to provide a caring ear, offer advice when sought, or simply share a cup of tea. Her home served as a sanctuary, welcoming all family members and friends to find solace and regroup as needed. The love and kindness Gail extended to others were reciprocated tenfold by the gathering of family members who stood by her side, holding her hand as she transitioned to the next chapter.

While we mourn our loss, we also celebrate the strength and conviction Gail displayed in her final moments. The world feels a little less bright without her presence. Gail will be deeply missed by her sister Lola Carr and her brothers Rodney Donaldson and Clayton Donaldson. She is survived by her sons Richard Welten and Christopher Welten, and her daughters Tina Brand-Lawson, Sheila Boardman, and Sherri Moulton. Gail's legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Amber Brand-Lawson, Nathan Lawson, Samantha Welten, Alexandra Welten, Peyton Welten, Wyatt Welten, Thomas Boardman, Spencer Boardman, Carley Moulton, Hailey Moulton, and Thomas Moulton. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Autumn McGuire, Matthew McGuire, Hudson Gallantry, and Olive Gallantry. Gail warmly embraced and welcomed John Drury (Tina), Jennifer Welten (Christopher), and Lisa King (Richard) into her family.

Gail had a deep affection for animals, and her home was always filled with cats, dogs, and birds. Some were adopted, while others were rescued. These furry and feathered companions provided Gail with love, comfort, and protection. Ensuring that her remaining pets found caring and loving homes was one of her final responsibilities. Additionally, Gail cherished her time horseback riding and often rode alongside her granddaughter, Amber. As a special 75th birthday gift, Gail received a final loving ride on her great-granddaughter's horse.

Knitting was another passion of Gail's, and she lovingly crafted socks and mittens as Christmas gifts for her family. Everyone eagerly anticipated receiving these knitted expressions of love. Gail also created afghans and blankets for her tiniest and newest family members as they arrived. In her final moments, We expressed a wish for Gail to leave a piece of woolen thread and perhaps send a small finch to let her children know that she will always be by their side.

Gail Lorraine Welten's presence in our lives was a gift, and her memory will forever be treasured. May her kind spirit and unwavering love continue to guide and inspire us.
