Trewin: Jer

April 29, 1982 – August 12, 2023

World’s Greatest Dad to Olivia & Mason; Beloved husband of Karla; Cherished son of Kevin & Sandra; Big Brother to Jason, Amanda, Shane, Jordyn, Bailey, and later Kate & Emma Jean; Favorite Uncle to Maiden, Landon, Abigail, Harbour & Hudson; Friend to many & Founder of Compass Home Construction.

Jer lived his life to the fullest, always there to support a friend, lend an ear or offer manual labour. His favorite pastimes were camping, boating on Georgian Bay, spending time with family and building custom wood furniture with his friends while watching the hockey game.

It was his honour & privilege to renovate so many homes across Simcoe County for new and old friends alike and giving new life to old historic buildings like 102 Main Street Penetang. He wasn’t always a contractor, and he prided himself on the leadership & teamwork skills he developed as one of the Casey’s Bar & Grill Kitchen Supervisors; the musical trivia acumen of the Central Spa Supply Crew; and the positive mentorship of the young men and women supported by his work family at Morton Youth Services. Jer started the DIY route, renovating his own home & first rental property before transitioning into a full-time carpentry job. He loved the reveal at the end of a renovation as well as most of the messy steps in between. Slowly but surely, he pursued his dream of owning 10 doors by 40, surpassing his goal with the completion of a fourplex in Port-McNicoll. He led an inspiring life, following his heart and doing work he loved.

One of Jer’s greatest challenges and the theme of his tattoo was “Finding the Time”. He may not have had all the time he wanted, however he always found the time to love his family, follow his dreams, show up for his friends, and make a positive contribution to his hometown.

In lieu of donations please Pay if Forward: Tip your server a little extra, donate to the local children’s fundraisers or Pay for the person’s coffee behind you in the drive through line. Jer loved doing those three acts, spreading a little kindness wherever he could. Thank you to everyone who has supported our family and friends through our loss. Your loving kindness has helped make an unbearable situation a tiny bit easier.
