Raymond (Ray) Carl Thomas, 81, passed away on March 10th, 2024 at Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland after brave battle with cancer.

Son of the late Phillip Seymore Thomas and Elizabeth May (Thomas) Bailey. He was husband to Gloria Thomas and loving father to Laura Barks (David) and Kevin Thomas (Rebecca). He is survived by his 6 grandchildren Michael (Sarah), Alex, Devin, Hallee, Meadow and Ryder as well as his great grandchildren William, Nicholas and Claire. Brother to Gilbert Thomas (Lillian), Vivian (Evan) Clarke and Sharon (Randy) Driscoll. Predeceased by his brother Len Thomas (Nancy).
Ray was born and raised in New Chelsea, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland.

As a young man he moved to Ontario where he met his wife and started his family. In 1973, Ray started a new venture and built a successful business that became well known in Midland, Barrie and surrounding communities. He was the owner/operator of Rays Driving School for over 30 years until his retirement. Ray was passionate about his work and loved teaching his students, always adding a little humour to his lessons.

The family would like give sincere thanks to the palliative care nursing staff of Georgian Bay General Hospital for the compassionate care given to Ray and the entire family during a difficult time. Your kindness made a difference for all of us. Special thanks to Dr. Adrian Stacy for his dedication to Ray’s care and thanks also to Dr. Murdoch and Dr. Caron.

Ray chose a simple life in his retirement and in honour of that choice there will be no public ceremony.

He will be quietly remembered in the hearts of all who loved him dearly. Donations can be made in his name to Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or Canadian Cancer Society.
