Karen Rutherford, 66, of Midland, ON passed away peacefully with her daughter and good friend by her side at the Georgian Bay General Hospital on September 25, 2023, after complications from major surgeries.

She was the devoted mother of Joshua (Chloé Tate-Marion) and Cassandra (Marc Beauchamp). Beloved grandmother of 5 grandchildren whom she adored: Finn, Mila, Rudy, Ravi and Jude. Sister of the late Barbara (Ron), Neil (Anne), David, Elaine, Shirley (Harold) and Lorraine. Predeceased by her parents Frederick and Martha (Lahey) Rutherford.

She was the rock of our family, both immediate and extended. An amazing mother and grandmother, Karen was a strong-willed, caring, nurturing woman full of love and a great sense of humour. She had a joyous, contagious, sometimes transcendent laugh that could brighten any room, and she smiled even in her lowest moments.

Karen served the community with pride as a realtor for Remax Georgian Bay for almost 40 years, and gave her time to various non-profits over the years including the Boys and Girls Club.

She spent her leisure time with her closest friends and family in the Georgian Bay area, where she loved the beach and played softball. Above all, she enjoyed conversation and celebration with loved ones and good homemade food.

She will always be cherished, loved and remembered.

There will be a celebration of life at the Brooklea Golf Club on November 4th, 2023 between 1-4PM.

The family would like to acknowledge the care and compassion shown by the dedicated staff at both St. Michael’s hospital in Toronto and the Georgian Bay General hospital in Midland, ON. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Karen’s name to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
