On April 23 the world lost one of the most loving men to have ever lived!

Vincent Clare Monaghan, (1941-2022) was the youngest son of a large Scottish and Irish immigrant family who made Peterborough, Ontario, their home. His early years were filled with laughter and love from his many siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Vince followed two elder brothers into the Christian brotherhood and a career in education. After leaving religious service, his niece introduced him to a pretty nurse, and the 1965 wedding bells announced Vince’s undying love for Patricia Godfrey.

Vince and Pat moved to Simcoe County where Vince worked first as a teacher, then principal, and finally superintendent with the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board. In 1992, Vince moved to the Niagara region to become Director of Education for the Lincoln County Catholic School Board. After retirement from education, Vince enjoyed working at Palatine Hills Winery. He and Pat also opened Sycamore Shade Bed & Breakfast. His relaxed manner and joyous chatter made him perfect for these roles. After retiring again, Vince and Pat became active in their winter community of Port Charlotte, Florida. They recently returned to Simcoe County, moving to Penetanguishene.

Unfortunately, a heart attack ripped Vince away from the love of his life, leaving a hole in Patricia’s heart and in the hearts of everyone blessed to know him. Left behind is a daughter, Angela, two sons, Kieran and Nolan, two daughters-in-law, Christie and Michelle, and two grandchildren, Alexis and Braden. Vince’s sense of humour, playful nature, insightful perspectives, steadfast integrity, and genuine love has elevated countless lives. His influence on this world continues through his numerous relationships with his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and colleagues. He is deeply missed and will never be forgotten.

A Celebration of Vince’s Life will be held on May 14th at 1 p.m. at the Quality Inn & Conference Centre (924 King St., Midland). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to any local hospice are appreciated. If you are attending the Celebration of Life, please refrain from wearing scented products as there are severe allergies in the family. Wearing masks are appreciated. Thank you.
