It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Harrison "Byron" Metzgar III on December 11, 2023, at Georgian Bay General Hospital.
Byron was born October 30, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA. At 18 years old he joined the US Marines where he served in Vietnam as a Cryptographer.
He came to Canada as an engineering student working for Bud Automotive in Cambridge, On He was awestruck with our awesome landscape and decided to stay. He moved to beautiful Penetang and opened MemoriesRoad House Restaurant at the bottom of Main St., beside the Post Office. He remained there for 18 yrs., retired and met Cathy. They married at St. Paul's Midland in 2005 and has been an active member until illness took over.
Byron is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Catherine Metzgar, children, Micheal, Danny, Dawn and BJ, and his stepchildren David, Daryl, and Kim. Byron also leaves behind his sister Joanne and Linda as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family.
Byron will be dearly missed and forever cherished by all who knew him. The family will be holding a service to honour Byron at St. Paul's United Church in Midland on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow at 12:00 p.m. We welcome all who knew Byron to come and honour his memory.
