Close friends and family are mourning Margaret (Peggy) McGuire, who passed away on December 4th, 2022 at the age 81.

Peggy, or P. J., as she was also known, was a woman of great intelligence, wit, and warmth, a born storyteller, who was not only deeply loving and loyal to friends and family, but was also kind and compassionate towards the needy. She was, as many said, a beautiful soul, and those attributes made her an outstanding nurse.

Peggy had forged deep and ongoing bonds of friendship with the nurses she trained with at Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Orillia, and these stalwart friends were with her when her life was coming to a close in hospital.

There were three important strands in Peggy’s family life. Born to Jack and Helen (Watt) Blewett in Toronto, she was raised by her Scottish aunts after her mother passed when Peggy was four, and her (late) father remarried and settled in White Rock, BC. In her early years, she spent happy summers with her cousin David at an uncle’s farm, and visiting her father’s family in B.C. It was in Toronto, where Peggy had been working for many years as as a geriatric nurse, that she met the (late) Frank McGuire, a realtor with whom she would marry and settle in Waubaushene for the last decades of her life. Peggy quickly became an integral and much beloved part of Frank McGuire’s family, as well as of the very large McGuire clan.

Peggy is survived by her step mom Sharon, and her sister Joan and husband in White Rock, B.C., her brother Tom and family in Saskatchewan, and in Ontario, her cousin David Watt and family, and Frank McGuire’s children, Joan, Carol, Kate, Michael, Wayne, Frank, and David, and their families.
At Peggy’s request, she has been cremated, and there will be no service.
