It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Patrick McBride. He passed peacefully onto the next world on the evening of Thursday, Feb 17th, 2022, at The Georgian Manor in Penetanguishene, Ontario. Joseph was in his 83rd year. Beloved husband of Margaret Ann (Peggy), Loving father of JoAnn (Shawn) and Margaret.

Proud Papa of Emily (Chris), Nathan, Leah and Alex. Joe was born on March 13th, 1939, in Coatbridge, Scotland. He came to Canada at the age of 18 and settled in King City. Joe did his best to provide for the family that immigrated with him and became a jack of all trades. He excelled in everything he did. Known to be quite the lady’s man, he met and charmed the love of his life, Margaret Ann Duquette at a dance. After a beautiful courtship they were married on July 1, 1967, Canada’s Centennial.

Joe said Peggy deserved fireworks on her wedding day. In 1969 they welcomed twin girls, Joann, and Margaret to complete their family and soon moved to the Penetanguishene area. Joe began his career with The Simcoe County Separate School Board. He retired in 2002. During his time at St. Ann’s Elementary and St. Theresa’s High School, he became a confidant and friend to many of the students and staff. Always the social butterfly he made fast friends with anyone he came across. He was always up for a chat and loved to share his “stories” with whomever wanted to listen. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, even if he wasn’t asked.

Joe had many hobbies, including gardening, photography, ancestry research and woodworking. Joe volunteered within the community, for Big Brothers and Fire & Rescue. After Joe retired, he became the crossing guard at St. Ann’s School and helped out at The Salvation Army Thrift Store. When he was home, he was either tinkering on his computer, in his woodshop creating lighthouses, listening to his extensive record collection, or watching British tv with his sweetheart. Joe was known for his love of cigars and Rusty Nails, which Peggy made him enjoy outside even in the colder months.

He will be deeply missed by his extended family, friends, and neighbours. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel to all the staff at the Georgian Manor for their excellent care of Joe while he was there, especially the staff on the Silver Birch ward. Cremation has taken place. Memorial donation to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated by the family.
