Alphonse Gilbert Maheu died peacefully at the Montfort Hospital with family by his side, on October 15, 2020 at the age of 92. He was born September 22, 1928 in Port McNicoll, Ontario. He was the beloved husband of the late Jeannette Maheu (née Lalonde) and will be sadly missed by his 8 children: Pierre (Christine), Charles (Jo-Anne), Robert (Christine), Martin (Brigitte), Elaine (Shane), Jean-Marc (Deborah), David and Joseph (Sarah), as well as by 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Alphonse was predeceased by his father, Joseph Elzear Maheu and his mother, Lumina Mary (Minnie) Maheu (née Baker) and 12 brothers and sisters from the Georgian Bay area: Henry, Anne, Rita, Charles, Jules, Rose, Len, Bea, Bert, Gus, Fred (his twin) and Bud. “Al” had a longstanding career as Regional Supervisor for the Natural Gas Company based in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario where he and his wife Jeannette raised their children.

He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus as 4th degree Knight in Sturgeon Falls, Penetang and Ottawa. Following the passing of his spouse Jeannette in 1995, Alphonse moved to Ottawa to be near his children and grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at the Penetanguishene Funeral Home, 155 Main St., on Thursday, October 29th, 2020. PLEASE CALL TO RESERVE YOUR TIME AS SPACE IS LIMITED DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS. A funeral mass will also be celebrated at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church followed by a graveside service. For those wishing, memorial donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
