Philip Hughes of Midland Ontario, passed away peacefully at Huronia Hospice Thursday, May 4, 2023. Phil was born in Ashford, England on October 22, 1944. On January 17, 1987 he married the love of his life Joan, and they shared 36 amazing years together.
Beloved husband of Joan Hughes. Phil is survived by his son Mark Hughes, wife Shannon, and granddaughter Alexa. Remembered by his sisters Margaret and Marion (Ronnie) of England. He was predeceased by his son Philip in 1987, brother Alan and sisters Barbara and Audrey.
Phil’s greatest passion was thoroughbred horseracing having worked at Woodbine Racetrack for over 50 years. He was part of the triple crown win by Wando, who was trained by his close friend and brother-in-law Michael Keogh. Phil will always be remembered for his sense of humor, cracking jokes right up to the very end.
The family will be having a very intimate service at a later date. They would also like to say a special thanks to the amazing care and compassion of the hospice who were so incredibly kind and caring in Phil’s final days.
In lieu of flowers, Phil has requested donations to the Huronia Hospice or the Midland SPCA.
