On August 21st, 2023, our sweet Mattias passed suddenly.
Words will never describe the deep chasm of sorrow that we are currently experiencing. We are forever grateful to have shared this earth with him, even though it was not long enough.
Mattias was a light in this world to many people. Everyone who had the pleasure to get to know him knows exactly how loving, generous, and kind he was. Mattias was always quick to cheer you up on your bad days, even when he was struggling with his own. He could always come up with a joke that would send you into deep belly laughs and melt your heart away with his beautiful, deep smile. While he ultimately lost his battle with mental health, we will forever cherish the joy from him we did get to experience.
Mattias was a lover of video games, anime, corny jokes, and gravy of almost all kinds (for those that remember the gravy blog). He loved us fiercely and we loved him right back.
Mattias will be grieved by his parents Scott Gaines and Stacey Beckles-Gaines; his sister Aliyah Cartwright, his cousin and big brother Malik Richards, his grandparents Iyola Beckles, Sandra Gaines and Gordon Gaines, and his brother-in-law Andrew Cartwright. Mattias also leaves behind his uncles and aunts, Gordon (Michelle), Randy (Tracey), and Susan; as well as his cousins Amanda, Nicholas, Emily, Nathan, Hayden, Emily Madore and Eric Madore. Mattias will be missed dearly by his closest friends, including his best friend, Eidan. He leaves behind his special friends Oreo, Boedi and Lucy. He will also be missed by his wonderful family doctor, Anne Gannon
Mattias is now reunited with his four-legged best friend Jaxson. We know they are in each other's embrace.

There will be a celebration of life for Mattias, the family will announce the date once it has been decided.
