A week and two days shy of her 84th birthday, we are saddened to announce the passing of our mother Catherine. She has stoically endured her debilitation from a stroke for the past thirteen and a half years with nothing less than grace and optimism. We take comfort in knowing she has been released of this burden.

Catherine maintained a sharp and inquisitive mind, with a keen interest in politics, for the duration of her life. She successfully campaigned for a position on Midland town council in the 1970’s. She was the first woman to be elected as alderman to council followed by a term as Deputy Reeve. A trail blazing accomplishment for a woman at that time. She also worked a number of years in a secretarial capacity at Bay Mills in Midland while raising a family of four children. And while Midland would be considered home for much of her life, Catherine did venture briefly to western Canada, having lived in both Edmonton Alberta and a short time in Kelowna, British Columbia.

From there she moved back to Midland permanently where she would enjoy a quiet life sharing her space with her two small poodles, Gigi and Duke.

Six months after her surprise 70th birthday celebration, a medical event would alter the course of her life.

To the numerous staff and personal support workers at Millcreek Care Centre in Barrie, a special thank you, for the years of devotion and gentle care given to our mother. She spoke highly of you; your kindness and services will be remembered.

Left to mourn the passing of our beloved mother are Kelly, Digby, Nova Scotia; Annette, Midland; Scott (Norheen), Barrie; and Denise, Calgary, Alberta.

Grandmother of Heather and Marlee Mae Fitzpatrick, Angela and Megan Edwards; great grandmother of Jason Edwards.

Catherine was the much loved daughter of the late Bernard and Edna McAneney; dear sister to Joan (Elmer) Hamelin; Paul McAneney, and Maureen (Duff) Gibson.

She is predeceased by her brothers Robert (Joan) and Bernie (Lorrraine) McAneney. Catherine is Auntie to numerous nieces and nephews.

If so desired donations to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or your local Animal Humane Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life to be determined at a later date.
