It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Allan Cosford at Headwaters Hospital on Friday, May 13, 2022. Peter was born in Toronto to Douglas and Ivy (Gray) Cosford. Beloved husband of Violet (nee Rawlings) for 62 years. Father to Alexandria (Andreas Hass) and Kimberley (Adam Fournier) and Grandfather to Logan and Dylan. He will be missed by his nieces Marina, Susan and Holly.
Peter was a self-employed Certified Insurance Underwriter and Broker until a second stroke required him to retire at the age of 62.
Peter loved to travel. He had been to India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Istanbul, Cyprus, Yugoslavia, Spain, Gibraltar, London, Yucatan and throughout the US. Including the family's famous camper trip that we say was the inspiration for National Lampoons Vacation. During his travels he saw many beautiful pieces of jewelry and art which inspired his fascination for gemstones. He expressed his own creativity in the many jewelry pieces he made for the family. He was an avid scuba diver in his younger years and ran a diving club until his mid-twenties. Peter spent most of his life on the shores of Georgian Bay. He often found stranded or lost travelers on the open water and was known for his frequent rescues with some as far away as the Western islands. When storms would hit, as they often did on the Bay, he could be found securing and hauling in other cottagers' boats and belongings often during the early morning hours. In his later years you would find him sitting by the beach enjoying the view and listening to the waves with the wind in his face. As his mobility deteriorated you would still find him on the deck enjoying the view of the water with a cup of tea and a book in his hand.
He will be greatly missed.
A Private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
A tree will be planted in memory of Peter in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville.
