The family of Ernie Bazinet are saddened to announce his passing on August 23, 2021, in his 91st year, at the Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland, Ontario.

Ernie is predeceased by his wife Jean, his parents Ernest and Mae Bazinet and his great grandson Brian Ernest Dietrich.

He is survived by daughters Deborah Bazinet, Jane (Ray) Millar and Brenda Bazinet (Richard Schloendorf), all of Tiny Township. Loving and proud grandfather of Sarah Bazinet (Tyler Brooks), Brian Millar, Laura (Chris) Gauer, Steven (Madeleine) Millar, Andrew Millar, Ian Millar, Ryan (Annabelle) Bazinet and Kerstin Bazinet (Cody Dietrich). Also, the proud and loving great grandfather of River, Rowynoak, Vivienne, Eloise, Audrey, Lillianna, Dahlia, Azalea and Viola.

He is also survived by his sisters Joyce (Mark “Mick”) Hamelin and Anne (John) Maslen, as well as his many nieces and nephews.

Ernie graduated from the University of Toronto, Geophysical Engineering (Class of 1955). Besides working throughout Canada and the United States, his employment took him all over the world to such places as Ireland, Honduras, Argentina, Australia, Thailand, Sierra Leone, Democratic Republic of Congo, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. He spent almost 19 years working in the Sierra Madres Mountains of  Mexico, before retiring in 2015 at the age of 84.

Ernie was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt and fish. He was a humble and quiet man who loved spending time outdoors with his family and friends. He was legendary in his ability to spin an entertaining story about the dangers and adventures of the many places he worked. In our hearts he will live on as “Indiana Ernie”.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Georgian Bay General Hospital for the compassionate care they gave Ernie while he was in the hospital. The family would also like to thank the wonderful PSWs Laura, Maryam, Tyra, Ross, Shayna, Tiffany and Hillie, who cared for Ernie at his home during his last year.

Memorial donations to the Georgian Bay General Hospital Foundation, the Alzheimer Society, or your charity of choice, would be appreciated.
