Most actively traded companies on the Toronto Stock Exchange

TORONTO — Some of the most active companies traded Tuesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (19,654.92, up 135.49):

Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU). Energy. Up $1.12, or 2.76 per cent, to $41.73 on 9.4 million shares.

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (TSX:CM). Financials. Up 89 cents, or 1.57 per cent, to $57.67 on 8.6 million shares.

Toronto-Dominion Bank (TSX:TD). Financials. Up 74 cents, or 0.95 per cent, to $78.49 on 8.3 million shares.

Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (TSX:CNQ). Energy. Up $2.11, or three per cent, to $72.53 on 7.9 million shares.

Crescent Point Energy Corp. (TSX:CPG). Energy. Up 61 cents, or 7.45 per cent, to $8.80 on 7.7 million shares.

Cenovus Energy Inc. (TSX:CVE). Energy. Up 98 cents, or 4.42 per cent, to $23.14 on 7.3 million shares.

Companies in the news:

BlackBerry Ltd. (TSX:BB). Up 25 cents, or 5.06 per cent, to $5.19. BlackBerry Ltd. has signed a deal to sell a portfolio of what it says are non-core patents related to mobile devices, messaging and wireless networking in an agreement that could be worth up to US$900 million. The company says Malikie Innovations Ltd., a newly formed subsidiary of Key Patent Innovations Ltd., will pay US$170 million in cash up front and an additional US$30 million in cash by no later than the third anniversary of closing the deal. BlackBerry will also receive annual cash royalties from the profits generated from the patents that will initially be capped at US$700 million. The cap is subject to an annual increase of an amount equal to four per cent of the remaining portion of the US$700 million that has not been paid to BlackBerry as of the date of the increase.
