Lindsey Martin-Penny passed away last year after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

Following a successful inaugural event earlier this year, organizers of Lindsey’s Legacy Cabaret are already planning for next year's show.

And they're excited about who've they've landed to headline the event with two former members of a legendary Canadian a capella group coming aboard. Micah Barnes and Billy Newton-Davis from the Nylons will be bringing their touring show called A Night in Vegas to the Midland Cultural Centre June 20.

The event honours Lindsey Martin-Penny, a Midland native who died in July, 2022 at age 59 of untreatable ovarian clear cell carcinoma. She had been diagnosed only six months earlier, but the diagnosis turned out to be an aggressive, treatment-resistant form of ovarian cancer.

Through The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, a special fund in Martin-Penny's name was established in February, 2023, to advance research into methods of detection and treatment of this devastating disease.

“The Nylons were Lindsey’s absolute favourite group,” said Burke Penny, Lindsey’s husband of 36 years and event organizer.

“Having Micah Barnes and Billy Newton-Davis headline our event is great news and carries special meaning for all those who knew Lindsey.”

Added Barnes in a release: “Both Billy and I are super excited to participate in this fundraising event. Especially since Lindsey was such a Nylons fan!”

This year’s inaugural event featuring headliners Marisa McIntyre and Kale Penny raised more than $40,000 for the cause and Penny says the 2024 version will build on that foundation.

“We know that June is a busy month for many families, so we’re hoping that people will save the date for this opportunity to see two of Canada’s iconic entertainers,” said Penny.

Additional details about June’s Lindsey’s Legacy Cabaret will be announced early in the new year along with ticket information and sponsorship opportunities.
