Tonight's online singalong could help people sing stresses away

“I don’t think there has ever been a time where music should be celebrated more," as online sing-along gets ready to belt out a tune

If you’ve ever wanted to sing like no one was watching, tonight is your night.

Barrie musician Brett Caswell is bringing his love of music to a Facebook Live performance Saturday night. Caswell Community Choirs provides a musical outlet for anyone at any age by showcasing drop-ins throughout the city.

Caswell hopes to do the same with his online event tonight.

“I hope many others not just tune in, but also help sing along,” Caswell told BarrieToday. “I don’t want it to just be sitting there singing.”

As COVID-19 continues to grip the world, many people are taking to social media to stay connected as they stay in their homes.

Caswell said that more than ever, music is needed.

“I don’t think there has ever been a time where music should be celebrated more,” he said. “Listening, singing, playing an instrument, it is all so needed as we try to get through this crisis.”

Video from Italy, one of the hardest-hit nations for the coronavirus, shows people keeping their distance from each other, but singing from their balconies.

“People all over are doing things to take the stress off the crisis. If this Facebook Live show does that, I’ll be happy,” said Caswell.

The event starts at 7 p.m. and will feature songs that should be familiar to most who check it out.
