Six local residents among 133 new COVID-19 cases in region today

There are four cases in Midland along with one each in Tay and Tiny Townships

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 133 new COVID-19 cases in today's update (April 16).

There are 911 active, lab-confirmed cases in the region, most of which are in Simcoe County.

The health unit has reported 2,154 variant cases confirmed to date, with 468 of those cases still active.

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 9,183 cases of COVID-19 with 7,711 of those cases recovered and 215 cases ending in death. 

There are 42 people from Simcoe County and one person from Muskoka hospitalized with COVID-19, which includes five new hospitalizations since yesterday. 

To date, 129,708 people in Simcoe-Muskoka region have received their first dose of a vaccination against COVID-19, which is about 20 per cent of the region's population. 

The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified): 

  • Midland (4): Two youth under 18 years old and two people between 45 and 64 years old.
  • Tay (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old.
  • Tiny (1): One person between 65 and 79 years old.
  • Georgian Bay (2): One person between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old.
  • Collingwood (3): Two people between 45 and 64 years old and one person between 65 and 79 years old. One case is attributed to community transmission.
  • Wasaga Beach (10): Two youth under 18 years old, six people between 45 and 64 years old, and two people between 65 and 79 years old.
  • Clearview (2): One person between 35 and 44 years old and one person between 45 and 64 years old. One case is attributed to community transmission. 
  • Barrie (34): Three youth under 18 years old, nine people between 18 and 34 years old, five people between 35 and 44 years old, 10 people between 45 and 64 years old, six people between 65 and 79 years old and one person over 79 years old. Four cases are linked to close contact, and two are attributed to community transmission.
  • Springwater (2): One person between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. 
  • Innisfil (19): Two youth under 18 years old, four people between 18 and 34 years old, three people between 35 and 44 years old, nine people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. One case is attributed to community transmission, and three are linked to close contact.
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (22): Five youth under 18 years old, four people between 18 and 34 years old, three people between 35 and 44 years old, nine people between 45 and 64 years old, one person between 65 and 79 years old and one person over 79 years old. Five cases are linked to close contact, three are community-acquired.
  • Orillia (2): One youth under 18 years old and one person between 18 and 34 years old. One case is linked to close contact. 
  • Oro-Medonte (3): One youth under 18 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. One case is linked to close contact. 
  • Severn (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old. 
  • Essa (4): Two people between 35 and 44 years old, one person between 45 and 64 years old and one person between 65 and 79 years old. 
  • New Tecumseth (11): Three youth under 17 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, four people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person over 79 years old. Two cases are attributed to community transmission, four are linked to close contact, and one is outbreak-related.
  • Adjala-Tosorontio (6): One person between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 34 and 45 years old, three people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. One case is linked to close contact and one to community transmission.
  • There are five new cases in Muskoka, including three in Huntsville, and two in Lake of Bays.
  • One case is listed with location information pending.
