The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported one new COVID-19 case and zero deaths in today's update (July 16).
The only case reported today is a Barrie man between 35 and 44 years old whose case transmission is linked to close contact with another known case.
There are 30 active cases in the region.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,328 cases of COVID-19 with 11,622 of those cases recovered and 254 cases ending in death.
There are four people from Simcoe County hospitalized with COVID-19-related illnesses. There have been no new hospitalizations reported since Friday.
The health unit has confirmed 4,964 variant cases in the region so far, with 15 of those cases still active.
Today's update also includes the following information on variants of concern:
- 3,997 local cases have tested positive for the COVID-19 variant of concern B.1.1.7 (alpha)
- 166 cases have tested positive for the P.1 (gamma) variant of concern
- 34 cases have tested positive for the B.1.351 (beta) variant of concern
- 96 cases have tested positive for the B.1.617.2 (delta) variant of concern
- An additional 671 cases have screened positive (awaiting confirmatory testing).
About 46 per cent of the region's total population is fully vaccinated, and another 21 per cent has one dose of a COVID vaccine. The remaining 33 per cent is unvaccinated, which includes children under 12 who are ineligible for a vaccine at this time.
Anyone aged 12 years or older living in Simcoe-Muskoka region can book their first or second dose of vaccine online via Ontario vaccine booking system. More appointments are added regularly for clinics throughout the region.
