One of the principals behind the Beach Rights group hopes to become Tiny Township’s next deputy mayor.
Sean Miskimins has announced his candidacy for the position, noting he’s watched councils over the past decades who have gone from representing “the majority of the fine people in Tiny, to seemingly only representing their own self interests.”
Miskimins says he’s tired of what he views as council members shrugging their shoulders and saying there’s nothing council or the township can do on certain controversial issues.
“It is time for change, it is time for action, it is time for more than words and platitudes,” he said. “I will represent the people of Tiny and bring your wishes to the council table. I want to hear from you.
“There are many issues facing Tiny and we need a council that will act in the best interest of protecting our community and what has made it such a special place for us to live and raise families; to cottage and create memories; and to preserve our way of life.”
Some of those issues outlined by Miskimins include “STRs overtaking our neighbourhoods, beaches becoming destroyed and stolen from generations, a risk to our water table (water is life!) and affordable housing.”
Miskimims is a third-generation Tiny resident and notes that he’s passionate about beaches and the protection of the environment. A human resource executive by profession, he has worked in large corporations across multiple industries and small technology start-ups.
When not working, the father of two enjoys spending time with his family and is also the drummer and singer for First Nayme Basis.
Miskimins says his goal is to create more transparency in the township and bring “real leadership” to the community.
“I am not someone who can stand by and watch things happen,” he said. “I believe in action and asking the tough questions that uncover the root cause of problems and will ensure the public is informed of decisions and the ‘why's’ behind them. Transparency is a core value of mine.”
