Quest Art School + Gallery has come up with a new program designed to bring creativity and conversation together.
Called Art Talks, the new series begins April 10 with author Douglas Hunter and his presentation titled ‘Jackson’s War: A.Y. Jackson, The Birth of The Group of Seven and The Great War’.
Quest volunteer communications consultant Stephanie Rumball said the series will delve into the vibrant world of visual arts and art history through insightful discussions, interviews and reflections with esteemed authors, artists and other influential figures in the art community.
She said Hunter’s presentation “will take guests on an intriguing journey through the critical formative years of artist Alexander Young Jackson, a prominent co-founder of the Group of Seven, the Beaver Hall Group and the Canadian Group of Painters.”
As well, attendees will have the unique opportunity to learn more about Jackson’s life, including his early experiences on Georgian Bay and his remarkable endeavours as a soldier and war artist.
Douglas Hunter, whose book Jackson’s War was a finalist for the J.W. Dafoe Book Prize, is considered an authority on the subject and is expected to provide captivating anecdotes and perspectives, shedding light on the dynamic evolution of the artist.
In addition to the presentation, guests will be treated to an exclusive preview of the Jackson’s War Exhibition at the prestigious McMichael Canadian Art Centre. Co-curated by Hunter, this exhibition promises to offer an immersive exploration of Jackson’s contributions to Canadian art and his experiences during times of conflict.
