Everyone’s likely heard of Lollapalooza, but Midland has created its own similar-sounding phrase to celebrate National Public Works Week.

On Saturday, the town hosts its first-ever Public Works Palooza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre parking lot.

Since 1960, municipalities across the country have recognized National Public Works Week in May.

To that end, the town invites kids of all ages to check out the event as town operations staff, police officers, firefighters, paramedics and Severn Sound Environmental Association staff will be on hand to help others learn more about the vital work that public works and emergency service teams provide to the community.

There will be hands-on learning with interactive displays, games, prizes and snacks.

Visitors will also be able to get an up close and personal look at heavy equipment and emergency vehicles while also meeting a team from the OPP canine unit.
