Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the House of Commons will be recalled at noon on Tuesday to pass emergency legislation.
Trudeau thanked House Leaders and members of the Opposition for their cooperation.
He thanked Canadians for taking the steps they have to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
"I know it's not easy, but it's deeply appreciated," he said.
The Prime Minister issued a special thank-you to kids who are forced to go without playdates to cancel sleepovers, have seen their playgrounds shut down, and are washing their hands "a lot."
He said his own children miss their friends and are worried, and he thanked kids for the sacrifices they are making: things like helping their parents work from home and doing math lessons around the kitchen table.
"I know this is a big change, but we have to do this not just for ourselves, but for our grandparents," and others including those working at hospitals.
"A special thanks to all you kids," said Trudeau.
