Public Health Ontario has reported 934 new cases of COVID-19 in Ontario today, as well as 820 recoveries and 10 deaths.
Of the 10 deaths reported today, five were individuals between 60 and 74 years old and five were individuals over the age of 80. Five of the people who died were residents of long-term care homes.
There have been an additional 31 people hospitalized with COVID-19 since yesterday's report, and five COVID-19 patients have been admitted to intensive care units.
Of today's cases, 348 were reported in the 20 to 39 year olds age group and 279 cases were reported among individuals 40 to 59 years old.
According to a breakdown of cases provided by Public Health Ontario, of the 934 new cases reported today, 79 per cent came from the four hotspot regions. Toronto reported 420 cases, Peel reported 169 cases, York reported 95 cases, and Ottawa reported 58 new cases. Toronto, Peel, and Ottawa have been under mofidified Stage 2 restrictions since Thanksgiving weekend. York has been under the same restrictions since Oct. 19.
The province reported 99 new school-related cases today, including 55 student cases, nine staff cases, and 35 unidentified cases. There have been 2,098 school-related cases reported at 581 schools since the start of September and 923 of those cases have been reported in the last 14 days. There are no schools closed because of COVID.
Ontario has now started reporting a breakdown of cases confirmed in school-age children. Since Aug. 30, there have been 866 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in children aged 4 to 8 years old, 1,089 cases in children aged 9 to 13 years old, and 1,171 cases in children aged 14 to 17 years old.
Public Health Ontario has also confirmed 16 new cases in childcare settings.
The province has now processed results for more than 5 million COVID-19 tests with 35,621 tests processed since yesterday's report and another 40,074 tests awaiting results.
As of yesterday, when the province reported 834 new cases, the per cent positivity rate in Ontario was three per cent, meaning three per cent of all people tested for COVID-19 test positive.
Of the 7,578 active, lab-confirmed cases in the province, 322 people are currently hospitalized. There are 77 COVID patients in intensive care units across Ontario, and 52 of those patients are on ventilators.
The province's public health agency has now confirmed 73,819 cases of COVID-19 since January, and has reported 63,123 recoveries and 3,118 deaths.
The average incidence rate for COVID-19 in Ontario is 496.6 cases per 100,000 people.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 1,326 cases of COVID-19, with 1,248 of those in Simcoe County. There are 1,111 cases listed as recovered. Six people are currently hospitalized. The health unit has recorded 49 deaths.
The incidence rate for Simcoe County is 236 cases per 100,000 people.
