Public Health Ontario has reported 469 new COVID-19 cases in its latest report (June 8).
Today's update also includes 1,010 new recoveries and 18 deaths.
The deaths reported today include five people between 40 and 59 years old, 11 people between 60 and 79 years old, and two people over 79 years old.
Since yesterday's update, there have been 36 new hospitalizations, and 11 more COVID patients admitted to intensive care units.
The June 8 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 7,378 active, lab-confirmed cases, down from 7,937 yesterday.
- 621 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, up from 547 yesterday.
- There are 481 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 497 yesterday) and 305 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 339 reported yesterday).
- The province reported 17,579 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 2.7 per cent positivity rate.
- There are 14,160 tests still awaiting processing, and the provincial labs have processed 15.4 million tests to date.
- Of the new cases reported today, 182 are from Toronto, 76 cases are from Peel, and four are from Simcoe-Muskoka.
- Today's cases include 111 individuals aged 19 and under, 167 people between 20 and 39 years old, 129 people between 40 and 59 years old, 53 people between 60 and 79 years old, and seven people aged 80 and over.
Vaccines
- There were 158,209 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday, up from 116,829 doses administered on June 6.
- 10,267,613 doses of vaccine have been administered.
- In total,1,174,330 people have been fully vaccinated.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 537,076 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 520,811 recoveries and 8,887 deaths.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,613.2 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 38.1 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 27.2 per cent from the prior seven-day period.
Simcoe-Muskoka
Since Friday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 54 new cases in the region.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,066 cases of COVID-19 with 11,087 of those cases recovered and 246 cases ending in death.
There are 311 active cases in the region.
The weekly incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 26.5 cases per 100,000, which is a decrease of 22.1 per cent over last week (May 23 to 29).
