Ontario reports 159 new COVID cases Friday

Today's update includes 189 recoveries, 13 new hospitalizations, and 10 deaths

Public Health Ontario has reported 159 new COVID-19 cases today in the July 15 daily update.

Today's update includes 189 new recoveries and 10 deaths. 

The deaths reported today include one person between 40 and 59 years old, four people between 60 and 79 years old, and five people over 79 years old. 

Since yesterday's report, there have been 13 new hospitalizations and four people have been admitted to intensive care units.

The July 16 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 1,403 active, lab-confirmed cases, down from 1,443 yesterday.
  • 159 COVID-positive people are currently hospitalized in Ontario.
  • There are 158 patients in intensive care units with COVID-related illness (of those, 39 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
  • 119 people are on ventilators due to COVID-related illness (of those, 28 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
  • The province reported 28,126 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 0.6 per cent positivity rate. 
  • There are 8,704 tests still awaiting processing, and the provincial labs have processed 16.3 million tests to date.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 25 are from Waterloo, 23 are from Toronto, 12 cases are from Peel, one is from Simcoe-Muskoka, 34 are from Grey-Bruce, and none are from York Region.
  • Today's cases include 49 individuals aged 19 and under, 61 people between 20 and 39 years old, 36 people between 40 and 59 years old, nine people between 60 and 79 years old, and five people over 79 years old. 

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 547,864 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 537,176 recoveries and 9,285 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,685.7 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 7.9 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 13.2 per cent from last week.

Vaccines

  • There were 168,616 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday.
  • 17,810,472 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total, 7,578,116 people have been fully vaccinated.

Simcoe-Muskoka

Yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported three new COVID cases.

There are 46 active cases in the region. 

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,327 cases of COVID-19 with 11,605 of those cases recovered and 254 cases ending in death.

There are four people from Simcoe County hospitalized with COVID-19 related illnesses.

The weekly incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 3.2 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 25.6 per cent compared to last week.
