For the third day in a row, Ontario has reported fewer than 100 new cases of COVID-19.
Today the province has confirmed 86 new cases of the coronavirus, 146 recoveries, and no new deaths.
The new cases reported today include 40 people between 20 and 39 years old, and 16 people aged 19 and under. The remainder of the cases are split between the 40 to 59-year-old age group (14 cases) and the 60 to 79-year-old age group (13 cases). There is one case in a person over the age of 80.
Today's report also includes 24 new cases confirmed in health care workers employed at long-term care homes across Ontario. There are 40 current outbreaks at long-term care homes and 22 at retirement homes.
Of the province's 34 health units, 22 reported zero new cases for today's update, and the remainder reported 16 or fewer cases, except Toronto, which reported 18 new cases. Ottawa reported 16 cases, Peel reported 11, York reported 10, and Chatham-Kent reported 14.
Windsor-Essex, the only county in the province still in Stage 2 restrictions, reported two new cases in today's update.
According to the epidemiological summary for today, there were 17,229 COVID-19 tests processed since the last provincial update.
To-date, Public Health Ontario has confirmed 39,714 cases of the novel coronavirus in the province, and reported 35,747 of those as recovered with 2,782 cases ending in death.
The cumulative incidence rate for Ontario is 267.2 cases per 100,000 people in the population.
There are now 1,185 active, lab-confirmed COVID cases in the province based on the data in the epidemiological report. There are 66 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including 30 patients in intensive care and 15 patients on ventilators.
Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 662 cases of COVID-19 to date, with 631 of those cases located in Simcoe County.
There are 604 cases now recovered and 37 people have died in the region. The health unit indicates there are 21 active cases in the region – all in Simcoe County – and three of those cases are hospitalized.
In Simcoe-Muskoka, the incidence rate for the coronavirus is 111.4 cases per 100,000 people in the population.
