MidlandToday welcomed to town at official launch party (9 photos)

'Our focus will be hyper-local coverage of everything that matters in Midland, Penetanguishene, Tiny and Tay,' says regional publisher

MidlandToday celebrated its official launch in style Wednesday with a well-attended meet and greet at the Midland Cultural Centre.

Dozens of area residents dropped by to offer up their congratulations on the new venture with many also suggesting possible future stories they would like to see MidlandToday tackle.

With the launch, Sault Ste. Marie-based Village Media now owns and operates 12 distinct community news sites, including five in Simcoe County. It’s also a partner in a number of other news sites both nationally and abroad.

“Although part of a growing company, Village Media allows their publishers and editors the freedom to make local decisions on coverage and content,” said John Hammill, who serves as the company’s director of advertising/regional publisher.

Hammill said the MidlandToday team, which includes community editor Andrew Philips, reporter Mehreen Shahid and sales executive Stuart Snelgrove, will be working hard to bring area residents the kind of coverage they deserve.

“Our focus will be hyper-local coverage of everything that matters in Midland, Penetanguishene, Tiny and Tay," said Hammill. "Of course, we’re open to ideas, so please let us know how we are doing and what you would like to see as we grow!”
