Midland gets cracking on tennis, basketball court repairs

Work on Little Lake Park tennis courts, Bayview Park basketball courts to be completed in coming months

Midland’s scored a match point with its latest funding from the province.

With $287,100 in a Community Building Fund grant from the province and the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the town plans to to resurface tennis courts at Little Lake Park and the basketball court in Bayview Park.

For Bayview Park, this will be a year of significant upgrades, as that park is also set to have a new playground installed in the spring.

And as any tennis player in town will tell you, the Little Lake courts were in desperate need of repair.

For the past two years, only two of the four courts have been playable. And with Tiffin Park reduced to one tennis court, this has led to reports of unwanted behaviour at the Little Lake courts by some spotted heckling others while waiting to play.

The resurfacing of the tennis courts and the basketball court in Bayview Park will be completed in the coming months.

“As a small municipality, all funding that Midland receives goes a long way to help us complete important projects, and this grant will help ensure some vital outdoor park amenities are improved and available for use by our residents and visitors this year,” Mayor Stewart Strathearn said.

“On behalf of council, staff and residents I would like to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Ontario Government for their continued support of municipalities in improving and maintaining existing facilities and  infrastructure.”

Last year, nearly $112M was invested into 1,384 community projects and  partnerships to build healthy and vibrant communities and strengthen the impact of Ontario’s non-profit sector through the foundation.

Added Simcoe North MPP Jill Dunlop: “Investments in community and recreational infrastructure are essential in supporting community  development, socialization, and connection.”
