A men’s philanthropic group continues to do good deeds for the local charities.

Guys Who Care North Simcoe kicked off its 2024 season with very well-attended meeting at Lilly’s Italian Eatery in Midland. In addition, the drive for new and younger members bore fruit with eight new members there.

From the three local charities presented at the meeting, the Guys voted Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Simcoe as their choice of recipient. The charity has received donations totalling $23,000 from the meeting, a near record amount.

“Guys Who Care North Simcoe are delighted to note that in their nearly 10 years of existence, they have raised nearly $390,000 in total giving,” organization co-founder Andrew Combes said.

“Guys Who Care have now been in existence for nine and a half years and in that time have made significant donations to 13 local charities.”

The Guys organization has no overhead expenses, which means every single dollar raised goes directly to the beneficiary charities.

Prior to selecting the beneficiary for their donation, all Guys members present puts a ballot for a charity of their choice into a hat. Three ballots are drawn. A case for each of the three charities is made. Then the group votes for one of the three. The one with the most votes wins the tally.

In the fall, the group will hold a special meeting to celebrate its 10th year in existence.

“Expect a very special event and yet more money for the needs of local charities,” Combes said. “The Guys will very easily surpass their next milestone of $400,000.”
