Stocked shelves at the Georgian Bay Food Network include bread and fresh produce like bananas, oranges, apples and potatoes.

Members of the Midland Golf & Country Club are raising some much needed funds and donations for the Georgian Bay Food Network.

Organizer Gary McMullen said they hope to raise $25,000 plus one tonne of food for the Midland-based agency, which helps those in need put food on the table.

“We understand that food insecurity is common in our area, particularly in light of this year’s record inflation,” McMullen said.

McMullen has created a GoFundMe account to raise the funds, which he hopes will be visited by fellow club members and “other local golf fanatics.”

As if 1 p.m. Tuesday, the fundraiser had collected $2,500 in donations.

Georgian Bay Food Network is a non-profit, store-front-style food bank with a goal of assisting individuals and families with food support and food security in our local community.
