The Midland-Penetanguishene Field Naturalists are welcoming an author whose been tackling environmental issues for three decades Thursday evening at the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre.

Canadian author and photographer Ed Struzik is the author of Swamplands: Tundra Beavers, Quaking Bogs and the Improbable World of Peat and a fellow at the Institute for Energy and Environmental Policy at Queen's University.

Throughout his career, Struzik has been a leading force in environmental advocacy; writing on many science and environmental issues, such as wildfire and its impact on air and water quality, and how communities can live with fires that are burning bigger, more often and increasingly putting people in harm’s way.

In his latest book, Dark Days At Noon: The Future of Fire, Struzik discusses fire as part of the natural landscape, exploring its history and "modern society’s misguided response to it."

Georgian Bay Books in Midland carries a selection of Struzik's work.

Thursday's event kicks off at 7:30 p.m. It’s free for members with guests asked to make a $5 donation.
