The Southern Georgian Bay Chamber of Commerce has received a helping hand in its efforts to celebrate local businesses.

The chamber recently secured a $75,000 marketing grant from the Ontario Chamber of Commerce to help launch a campaign celebrating the business community through paid promotions on social media, blogs, radio spots utilizing three stations and professional video including drone footage.

“Our program will launch on October 1st and we will be aggressively promoting our member businesses for four months through until the end of January, including the important Christmas season for shopping,” chamber general manager Cathy Tait explained.

Shop Local is a program run by the federal government through provincial and territorial chambers of commerce and boards of trade to support businesses to encourage Canadians to shop local.

The government is investing $33 million across Canada in this program to support businesses as they reopen so they can stay open and thrive in recovery with $8.8 million invested in Ontario, through the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, to support businesses as they reopen so they can stay open and thrive in recovery.

Tait said the marketing grant comes at an opportune time.

“We will be passionately promoting our member businesses on numerous platforms and driving home the importance of shopping local,” Tait said.

“We are so grateful for this $75,000 grant which will enable us to shout from the rooftops about our local businesses and provide them with much-needed support.”

There is no additional charge for members to be a part of the marketing campaign.

Chamber membership is  $225.00 + HST per year and any business interested in getting involved should contact the agency at (705) 526-7884 or by email at [email protected].
